A cable modem is a device that connects your computer to the Internet via your local cable television provider. A cable modem is an electronic adapter that permits a personal computer to receive Internet data from the high-speed information resources of a cable television system. Cable modems permit personal computers to receive Internet information at rates of up to hundreds of times faster than typical, consumer market telephone modems. A cable modem attaches to a personal computer through a network interface card (NIC) installed inside the computer. The cable television system’s cable brings the information into the cable modem and then the cable modem sends the information into the computer through the NIC.
A “Cable Modem” is a device that allows high-speed data access (such as to the Internet) via a cable TV network. A cable modem will typically have two connections, one to the cable wall outlet and the other to a computer (PC). Most cable modems are external devices that connect to the PC through a standard 10Base-T Ethernet card and twisted-pair wiring. External Universal Serial Bus (USB) modems and internal PCI modem cards are also under development.
A cable modem is an external piece of hardware that connects your computer to the internet via NewWave’s cable system. A cable modem has two connections, one that leads to the cable lines outside your business and an Ethernet connection to your computer. A cable modem will provide you with High Speed access to the Internet. Downloading a file that would take hours using a dial up modem connection will take only a few minutes with a cable modem connection. Because NewWave Communications uses the cable television lines to access the internet, you will be able to talk on the phone at the same time you are on the Internet. As a high-speed medium, you will be able to view many different multi-media presentations— “live” or streamed—such as concerts, movies, etc.
