What is a “Building Rep Model?
This term refers to how an AEA delivers its services to schools. Some AEAs use a generalist model, that relies on a single person that “represents” all disciplines in a school building. In these AEAs a school psychologist, a special class consultant, or a school social worker may serve as the “Building Representative” in a school. The Building Rep is responsible for oversight of the special education process in the building. He or she is involved in the identification of students for special education and the development of the Individual Education Plan (IEP). Building Reps provide consultation to general education staff and participate in a variety of building initiatives to help students succeed in school.
