What is a Bronze Medallion?
The Bronze Medallion is the core award for active surf lifesavers across Australia. The practical and theoretical sections of the award are designed to test a person’s competency in surf awareness, emergency care, patrol and rescue procedures, as well as basic anatomy and physiology. A candidate’s physical fitness is tested by a 200m run, 200m swim, 200m run and simulated rescues using a rescue board and tube. The Bronze Medallion, along with practical experience on patrol, includes the units of competency for Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue). As such, this course constitutes nationally recognized training with qualifications being issued by Life Saving Victoria – a registered training organization.
