A Bodhisattva is one who aspires to attain Buddhahood and devotes himself or herself to altruistic activities. This particularly applies to deeds that help others attain enlightenment. The word “Bodhisattva” describes fully realized beings such as Avalokitesvara (Kuan Yin) – who aspired to supreme Enlightenment and Buddhahood for herself and for all living beings. However, it can also stand for anyone who has developed the Bodhi Mind – the aspiration to save both self and others.
