What is a birdie in golf?
Double Eagle (Albatross) – 3 strokes less than par for a hole Eagle – 2 strokes less than par for a hole Birdie – 1 stroke less than par for a hole Par – The number of strokes it takes to get the golf ball into the hole for one hole. Bogey – 1 stroke more than par for a hole Double Bogey – 2 strokes more than par for a hole Triple Bogey – 3 strokes more than par for a hole Quadruple Bogey – 4 strokes more than par for a hole Quintuple Bogey – 5 strokes more than par for a hole and so on… When watching golf on TV they typically label anything over a bogey as “Other” Hole In One – Finishing a hole in only 1 stroke. This typically happens on par 3’s, but it can happen on short par 4’s as well.
