What is a biosecurity plan?
A biosecurity plan is a convenient way to describe a group of actions designed to reduce the chance that a disease will be brought onto a property or into a livestock facility. It can be a documented plan that is auditable (some producers may prefer this and some industries demand it!) or it can simply involve a mental check that key actions are clearly planned. For example, measures such as careful management of introduced stock, restricting visitors and vehicle access, keeping machinery and equipment clean and feed and water free from contamination are good management practices that will reduce the opportunities for disease spread.
