What Is A Bilby?
This is for the benefit of all the eBayers, Australian and overseas, who have asked me, “What is that cute/strange/funny creature on your signature tag?” I named my page and created my user ID from my favourite animal, the bilby, or Greater Bilby (macrotis lagotis). For those of you who don’t know, this is a rabbit-sized highly endangered Australian marsupial, which is a nocturnal desert-dweller of the bandicoot family. It’s also known as the Rabbit-Eared Bandicoot. Nearly totally wiped out by introduced predators such as foxes and cats, there are now several organisations around the country dedicated to breeding and releasing these animals into secure, predator-free environments, and the numbers are slowly increasing. .
