What is a behavioral program?
A behavioral program focuses on changing the habits and decisions made by each driver daily. For example, a certain stretch or roadway may have a higher incidence of vehicles running off the road due to exceeding the posted speed limit. In such cases, a behavioral change program will typically try to get the message out to the public that speeding is causing traffic safety issues in the area (through print or broadcast media, or even a message or speed display trailer positioned on the roadway), and expresses that there will be increased enforcement to slow traffic down. Subsequently, a high visibility enforcement campaign will follow.
