What is a Base Structure?
A structure is basically a pattern on the base of your skies to allow air to get trapped between the snow surface and your base and allow it to travel from tip to tail which also helps the movement of the tiny water droplets to travel back and away form the base of the ski, structures vary in thickness and this would depend on the snow type and conditions on the week of travel but it is essentially another system to allow better glide which is what we all want in the end. Its a little like the tread on a tyre, except the job of a tyre tread is to force the water away sidewards but we want role over the snow so the structure of most skis and boards is linear and run along the length of the ski in a linear pattern. You may think that a nice shiny base looks great but it will not glide well, you need structure for this and I can offer a basic linear structure for your base. The downside is that you cannot see the base structure very well with the human eye – but trust me it will be there.
