In Quebec, the total number of rooms contained in an apartment is used to indicate its size, rather than just the number of bedrooms. Each apartment has its own bathroom, which is considered a “half” room. A “1 & 1/2” is a Bachelor / studio apartment, which contains one large room with a kitchen area and a separate private bathroom. A “2 & 1/2” is a one-bedroom apartment, which contains a living/bedroom, a separate kitchen and a separate private bathroom.
