This is an ESRC-funded studentship providing a training programme for full- and part-time students who have not previously completed substantive research training. Students are funded for a one-year research-training Masters (two years part-time), and then for three years (five years part-time) for a PhD, subject to satisfactory progress. The aim is to provide continuity of support, allowing progress and training to be planned with more certainty and to free up more time within the PhD for work on the thesis research and for submission of the thesis with a maximum of four years (full time) or seven years (part time) from the beginning of the PhD.
