What is 1-part molding? How is it different from other types of molding?
1-Part urethane molding is a manufacturing procedure to quickly make replicas of an original master piece. This piece, which is created using FDM, SLA, or almost any other prototyping technique, is used to create a negative of itself in polyurethane rubber. This is done simply by securing the piece in a container and pouring the rubber. Once the rubber solidifies, remove the original part and pour in the material of the final piece. Once this dries, the piece is done and can be removed. This process can be repeated many times in a single mold. Molding is a quick way to reproduce large numbers of a single piece with accurate detail and good strength, depending on the material used of course. Since the mold is made with a physical piece, if it is done correctly the pieces produced will be exact replicas. The process is also quite simple, and other than drying time, does not take long at all. 1-part molding is the simplest of all molding techniques, since both 2-part and injection molding
