What interesting thoughts and ideas about plants did Charles Darwin make?
I can give you one example. Darwin established himself, after his voyage on the Beagle, as one of the leading biologists in England. His public foray into evolutionary theory occurred many years later. This might not be what you want, but Darwin worked on insectivorous plants. He was interested in finding out if these plants derived nutrition from the insects that got stuck on them. One experiment with sundews involved putting a sugar cube on one plant, and the insects on another. He found that having access to insects increased the number of seeds that plant produced, while the sugar did nothing to the numbers of seeds (versus a control with no sugar or insects). http://www.botany.
