What instruments does TERRIERS use?
• Primary instrument – A set or four high sensitivity extreme ultraviolet spectrographs (called the night TESS for Tomographic Extreme ultraviolet Slit Spectrographs) for EUV tomography of the ionospheric density. • A beacon experiment – A two frequency phased locked beacon (now called CERTO) for radio tomography of the ionospheric total electron content. • A day side TESS – This instrument is a lower sensitivity version of the primary instrument for use during the day. It’s primary diagnostics are oxygen and hydrogen line emission from the ionosphere. • Red line photometers – Two photometers for measuring 6300A oxygen red line emission (and a background channel) for use on the night side for limited angle visible tomography. • A solar spectrometer – A gas ionization cell based spectrometer (called GISSMO for the Gas Ionization Solar Spectral Monitor) for monitoring the solar x-ray input into the ionosphere. In addition, as part of our education and outreach program we are flying an ex
