What inspired the creation of the 4C Association?
The coffee crisis of 2001-2002 resulted in a prolonged period of very low prices, which threatened the sustainability of coffee production generally and caused major hardship for coffee farming communities. Consequently, coffee farmers, trade and industry as well as Civil Society representatives realised the need to work together to make life better for communities who depend on coffee production. Different stakeholder groups initiated the Common Code for the Coffee Community project – later 4C Association – and started working under the motto “joining forces for a better coffee world”.
