What injustice did martin luther king fight about?
The Civil Rights Movement sought to ensure that everyone in the country, regardless of creed, colour or gender, had the same political and social rights. Nowadays it can be hard to believe how unequal things were then, it was not so very long ago after all, but the fact is that in some states black people were not permitted to eat in the same cafes and restaurants as white, to sit on a bus if a white person was standing, to travel first class or stay in the same hotels or even, in some cases, to marry across the colour bar. Some of these equalities still exist but they are not written into law and that is, at least partly, due to Dr King whose impact went far beyond the United States. Read the I have a dream” speech delivered by Dr King at the washington demonstration he helped organise, or watch it on UTube ( YouTube – Martin Luther King, Jr.: I Have a Dream King’s I Have a Dream speech given on August 28, 1963. ” for a better undestanding of his aims and impact.
