What initiatives are being taken to reduce the environmental impact of car use for commuting and on University business?
We are trying to reduce the use of cars by staff and students, through the promotion of car sharing schemes and a restriction on some students bringing cars onto campus. Travel rules are designed to encourage the use of public transport and cycling. A tax-efficient cycle scheme and a phased programme of improved cycle shelters and dedicated shower facilities for cyclists have been introduced for staff with the hope of encouraging a switch from car use. The University also subsidises bus use through various schemes.
