What information does BGS have on overseas mineral exploration?
BGS has one of the largest collections of geological and related maps in the UK and a comprehensive geological library. There are also large collections of overseas journals, including many geological survey and mines departments publications, going back to the nineteenth century. The library is open to the public between 09.00 and 17.00 Monday to Thursday and from 09.00 to 16.30 on Fridays. BGS has worked in more than 100 countries in the last 40 years. These international projects cover a wide range of subjects, including minerals, and have produced extensive knowledge, datasets and publications for many parts of the world especially Africa, South America and South-East Asia. Recent projects involving minerals have been carried out in Angola, Botswana, Ecuador, Guyana, Indonesia, Malaysia, Morocco, Namibia, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
