What influence has Cuban art had on the art scene in Mexico?
NM: In the 1990s when the Cubans came here, they had a strong influence on the local contemporary art scene because they were much edgier than their Mexican counterparts. They were well taught by the schools in Cuba and has a lot fo knowledge despite the situation thre. So the Mexican artists started to change very rapidly as a result of this. Latino artists in general, not just the Cubans, always have a strong enery and are always very vibrant in whatever they are doing, even if it’s conceptual. IM: What is the international market for Cuban art like at the moment? NM: There is a lot of movement at the moment and Cuban art is much more in demand than it was some years ago. Galleries dedicated to Cuban art are springing up here in Mexico and elsewhere, e.g. Miami, Zurich. And at the international art fairs you now see European and American mainstream galleries that also have some of the best young Cuban artists in their stables. We are seeing a similar trend with Mexican artists. Peopl
