What industries are hardest hit? Which industries are faring better?
Most companies have been affected, but the retail and automotive sectors are down significantly. Manufacturing is mixed, with significant revenue declines experienced primarily by manufacturers who sell to the automotive and other struggling industries. A few industries that have not been as significantly affected include railroads, nuclear, oil & gas and information technology, though this is not an exhaustive list. The government is also hiring, and many government positions pay better than you might expect and typically offer excellent benefits. As the government increases its involvement in the economy, additional government jobs will likely be created. Keep abreast of the news because it may give you hints of where the jobs are. For example, the new administration indicates that it will invest in green technologies and practices, so “green” companies may fare well, though some of them are struggling currently.
