What in the world is a shoofly pie?
Shoofly Pie is a molasses and brown sugar based pie that is considered traditional in Pennsylvania Dutch Country and is also popular in the South. There are generally two versions of the shoofly pie – a wet bottomed and a dry bottomed version. Both feature two layers – a cakey/crumbly part and a gooey, molasses-y part. As their names suggest, the wet bottom version has more goo and less cake, and the dry bottom version has more cake and a thin layer of goo on the bottom. Our version is the dry bottomed version. Come on in and give it a try! We recommend it served slightly warmed with some freshly whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Yummy.
