Bob Smith: As Ive already mentioned, weve taken some huge strides with our real-time battle engine. For Medieval II, weve stripped down and totally refurbished the Rome engine. Medieval IIs engine includes a complete upgrade of the battlefield rendering system, new methods for building and rendering cities while the combat animation system has been heavily revised. Ive already mentioned the unit detail, individuality and the work weve done with the animation but were also particularly proud of is the improvements weve made to the rendering of settlements in the game. The period is known for its monumental castles and cities and we set out to do them justice by ensuring that we represent them in-game in a far more realistic manner then has previously been seen in the Total War series.
