What impact will construction have on the eco-system of the lake?
The project aims to enhance the utilisation of Lake Burley Griffin and meets the highest environmental standards. The construction is being carried out in accordance with an approved Environmental Management Plan (EMP), which was developed with the assistance of environmental experts and in consultation with the Environment Protection Agency (EPA). The Environmental Management Plan implements a number of key steps to minimise and control the impact on the environment from the project, including: – installing silt curtains to protect the quality of the lake; – treating all runoff water before it enters the lake; – carefully removing any contamination found on site; and – minimising the overall environmental impact on the lake.
