What if the sponsor does not fulfill the terms of the undertaking to assist a member of the family?
Failure of the sponsor to meet any commitment provided for in the undertaking could result in legal action being taken against the sponsor and the co-signor. The purpose of this agreement is to ensure that the sponsored family members do not become dependent on Canadian public welfare assistance. Also note that the undertaking once made cannot be cancelled or modified by the sponsor.
