What if the provider is willing to comply but has a different taxonomy code programmed in their system than the one we are requesting?
BCBSMA will make every effort to be flexible and help providers avoid needless system changes. If the code the provider wants to bill us is a reasonably good fit to the nature of the service provided and effectively differentiates those services from other services reported with the same NPI, we may mutually agree on the specific code to report for a given type of service – as long as the provider uses the code consistently. We will then associate this taxonomy code with the applicable legacy ID number in our crosswalk.
