What if the prior authorization process is not followed?
Failure to obtain prior authorization may result in the denial of the claim or a reduction in benefits. Members will not be held liable for the balance of services if a participating provider in North Carolina fails to obtain prior authorization when required. The member is responsible for the balance of services if prior authorization is not received for services at a nonparticipating provider or a provider outside North Carolina.
