WHAT IF THE HIGHER LEVEL COURSE PROVES TOO DIFFICULT? CAN A STUDENT RETURN TO THE LOWER LEVEL?

We recognize that 9th graders may be nervous about being in classes with students from the other grade levels. Please be assured that SW teachers want kids to be successful and will be especially careful to monitor the progress of freshmen right from the start. Frequently, 9th graders in levels II or III are among our most diligent and capable students. Should it develop, though, that a student is struggling and not achieving at the expected level, teachers will contact the parents and the counselor and explore the possibilities. In some cases, we recommend that a 9th grade student (even though he has passed the course in middle school) repeat the lower level in order to strengthen his/her abilities and build confidence. Transcript credit may only be earned one time for each level, however.
