Unless you have a very active compost pile, it will often freeze solid instead of continuing to heat up and break down over the winter season. This is normal, and aids spring and summer decomposition by breaking up pieces and increasing surface area. If the composter gets too full, you may want to install another one, or, if on campus, contact the Composting Co-ordinator to arrange placement of another one.
