Gladney never wants any family to feel obligated to accept a child they are not comfortable with accepting. They always have the right to decline a referral. Adoption is a lifelong commitment, and we want them to be absolutely certain that the child referred to them is the child they wish to accept. Declining a referral does not hurt the family’s chances of future referrals and does not put them at the “back of the line.” However, we also ask that families be realistic in their expectations. In international adoptions, we generally have only limited background information about the child.
