The Council would carry on pretty much as at present, except that rents would have to increase. This is because the government has defined a new quality standard which all housing must meet by 2015. In order to meet this, rents would have to rise by well above inflation for a few years. Also, every year we are losing about 600 homes through the Right to Buy and the availability of Council housing would continue to diminish in the years to come.
