What if someone misbehaves on a service activity?
The consequences of misbehavior should be made very clear from the beginning. It may be something that you brainstorm with the students before you begin. You always want to be clear about what your backup plan will be for students who refuse to follow directions. If you use a point sheet system, that may be one of your tools. They may need to return to the classroom or sit on the bus with a staff member, if you are off campus. You may want to explain that your program could be taught in a classroom with worksheets if the activity does not go well. Review that this is a chance to give back to the community and not be sitting at a desk doing traditional learning. Ask the students how misbehavior should be handled in this special setting.
