What if somebody makes a copyright complaint against a University of Manchester ETD?

All ETDs are stored in The University of Manchester’s institutional repository service, Manchester eScholar. Manchester eScholar has a well-defined ‘Takedown’ policy which involves the removal of any item which is the subject of a copyright complaint from a third party. Should there be a complaint about a University of Manchester ETD then Manchester eScholar administrators will immediately embargo the item and instigate an investigation into the complaint. Manchester eScholar will make every reasonable effort to liaise and inform with copyright owner(s) to address the issue. The ETD will not be permanently removed from Manchester eScholar unless The University of Manchester is of the view that the copyright owner(s)’ issues are valid, in which case the ETD may be permanently removed or retained with the third party materials removed. Manchester eScholar will reinstate public access to the item only once the complaint has been resolved.
