Parachute failures, in sense of irregular openings, are very rare. Nevertheless, all parachute systems have two (2) parachutes: main and reserve parachute. If there is malfunction on the main parachute on a tandem skydive, it’s tandem instructor’s job and task to open the reserve with proper procedure.
