Whether you’re using a Mac or a Windows PC, you’ll need to be sure your Java VM (Virtual Machine) software is up to date. Webmail is Java-based and requires Java from Sun Microsystems. As of February 2009, JRE 6.0 Update 12 is the latest version of the Java technology. Java is a trademark of Sun Microsystems. For Macintosh: Run Software Update. Software Update will automatically detect if a Java update is available and prompt you to install it. For Windows: Windows users should visit the Sun web site at Sun Microsystems – Java and download the J2SE 6.0 JRE Update 12 (Java 2 Runtime Environment). Modern web browsers such as Mozilla, Firefox, SeaMonkey, Safari, and Internet Explorer 6.0 SP2 (or newer) have built in pop-up blocking features that may be blocking the WebMail composition window from appearing. If you are having this problem, it’s a good idea to configure the pop-up blocking feature to allow pop-ups from neiu.edu to appear.
