What if my TVSS unit that is installed on the Main Service clamps at 600 Volts? That should take care of most of the problem, right?
Actually NO. That won’t take care of most of the problem. First of all, most of the problem is occurring inside your facility, within the electrical system. A TVSS unit mounted on the main service isn’t seeing what is happening inside the electrical grid. Secondly, a new Roof Top Air Conditioner, one that is designed to operate on 120/208 Volt power, can only handle a power surge up to 550 Volts. This is usually printed right on the sticker or data plate on the unit. If you experienced a power surge of 599 Volts, what do you think will happen to the Roof Top Air Conditioner?
