This is a weakness in the metadata standard. It assumes that the “date” of a process can be described well as a day, a month, or a year. I have encountered process steps that spanned multiple years, and I agree that it seems pointless to attach a single date to such things. It’s especially annoying when the single date would probably be the date the process was completed, which is often the same as the publication date of the data set. That date shows up so often anyway in the metadata that it becomes meaningless. There are two solutions. The first is to “fix the standard” by using an extension.
