What if I’m afraid of needles?
Though a lot of people are afraid of needles, acupuncture needles are different and should not be feared. Where Western medical procedures use relatively large, hollow needles, acupuncturists use extremely fine, filiform (non-hollow) needles that are inserted without pain. You are far more likely to experience a tickling or “electrical” sensation in the treatment area than a conventional western needle “prick.” Further, all needles are sterile, disposable (used only once), and completely safe.
