What if I want to become a foster carer, but do not have adequate bedroom space?
An organisation called Kids Under Cover (KUC) provides demountable bungalows to over 55 community service organisations statewide. KUC bungalows have been used successfully by Community Service Organisations for their registered foster carers to increase their ability to offer home-based care for children and young people requiring both short and extended placement periods. The adolescent children of foster carers can use KUC bungalows so that younger children who require foster care, may be placed in the household. Alternatively, an adolescent requiring placement with a foster carer may be placed in a KUC bungalow but be cared for as a member of the caregiver’s extended household. The provision of KUC bungalows is subject to the availability of funding and case planning directions of the Department of Human Services and the Community service organisation. Community service organisations who provide foster care can discuss this option with you and arrange the KUC bungalow applications.
