Georgia law only provides two categories for complete exemption from jury duty. They are age and permanent mental/physical disability. An affidavit for each category is included with the jury summons. In addition, excuse may be granted to any person who is a full time student at a college, university, vocational school, or other postsecondary school; and, any person who is the primary caregiver having active care and custody of a child under four years of age. Persons meeting the above stated criteria should call the Jury Clerk’s Office and request the appropriate affidavit. The affidavit must be completed, notarized, and returned to the Jury Clerk’s Office.
