What if an employee who appears ill does not want to leave work?

Talk to the employee and let them know that they appear ill, that you are concerned for their health and suggest that they go home to take care of themselves. You can also explain that the County is obligated to provide a healthy workplace and you have a concern that the employee may pose a risk to others. Usually, after an employee hears your concern, they will feel comfortable going home. If they continue to refuse, contact your division manager and HR Liaison for guidance. If sent home, the employees’ time is to be covered by sick leave, or some other type of paid or unpaid leave.
