What if a Tier 2 operator cannot locate its facilities within 61 inches of accuracy?
• Because of the age of some Tier 2 facilities or the poor quality of their maps, there may be instances when the operator is unable to provide locates within 61 inches of accuracy. If that occurs, the operator is required to mark the approximate location of its facilities to the best of its ability, notify the excavator that the markings could be inaccurate, remain on site or in the vicinity of the excavation, and provide additional guidance to the excavator in locating the facilities as needed during the excavation.
