What if a pregnant women intakes too much of folic acid?
High levels of folic acid have no reported cytotoxic effects. So, even if a women consumes enough amount of fortified cereals along with a folic acid supplement and food rich in folate all together, no toxic effects are expected. Still, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that women consume no more than 1,000 micrograms of folic acid a day.
