What if a player is not happy about playing time or what position they are playing?
On occasion, players are not happy about their situation on the team. The first action to take is for the player to talk with the manager. Ask what you can do to improve and earn more playing time or a chance to play a different position. Players are now 13 or 14 years old and are encouraged to communicate with their managers on their own. As a player prepares for high school, he or she must learn that it is the player’s responsibility – not the parents – to communicate with coaches. Parents can become involved, if truly needed, by having a respectful, appropriately timed discussion with the manager. This would not be before the game or during the game. Why not call ahead and ask the manager if you can talk to him or her for a few minutes after the game?Serious issues with a manager or coach should be discussed with a member of the executive committee.
