If the service requires a referral, you may contact the member’s PCC, who can submit the referral online. The referral will be processed in real time, so the referring physician will be able to provide the servicing physician with a referral number right on the spot. If the PCC does not agree to submit a referral you can reschedule the member when the referral is in place. Also, the specialist can search for referrals for new patients prior to their visits via the Web, and call the PCC if there is no referral.
