What if a large star in our galaxy died, creating a black hole?

This has happened many times in our galaxy before, and there are many black holes in the galaxy. None of them have any effect on the Earth. A black hole would only be a problem if it was VERY close to Earth. If it was where Alpha Centauri is, this would probably not be a problem. You need to be within three Scwarzchild radii of the hole for it to “suck” you in- for most black holes, this radius is only a few million km at most (a light year is several trillion km). However, a big star dying to make a black hole would produce vast amounts of radiation, and that can cause serious damage at interstellar distances. That would be a far more plausible threat than the black hole itself. And to make it even scarier, there’s no way to see it coming. If I had to write a story about this, and had to involve Earth, here are some ideas I would consider: * A black hole formed millions of years ago and is now moving towards the Earth. * A space mission is sent to investigate a recently-formed black h
