What hospitals were eligible to participate?
The project was open to hospitals that had subscribed to Premiers Perspective database as of March 31, 2003. Eligibility for the project is not related to Premier membership. Any hospital can subscribe to Perspective, and about 15 percent of subscribers today are not Premier members. Premiers Perspective database and its participants represent the only nationwide group of hospitals with the willingness and infrastructure to submit and track the data needed for decisions about Medicare payment. The leadership demonstrated by these hospitals cannot be overstated; they are making a commitment to have their Medicare payments tied in part to the quality of care that they provide.
