What high school courses should I take to become a mortician or funeral services?

To answer your question, I would recommend chemistry, anatomy, biology for high school courses. Funeral homes are not going to care what you took in high school, but the courses will help you out in college. Yes, you must go to college to become an embalmer in the United States. Even funeral directors (except for Colorado) are required to go to college. Requirements vary from state to state to become licensed. Here in Oregon where I am at, you must complete an associates degree in Mortuary Science, and serve two years internship. If you are truly interested in the funeral service industry, call the local college / university in your area offering Mortuary Science and ask them to send you an information packet on the coarse, which should explain the classes you must complete to receive your associates degree. You can use that information to get a better feeling on what you should take in high school to prepare for college. Check out the link to the college here in Oregon.
