What hidden fees does Dollar Rent-a-Car place on renters?
As a professional travel writer, I am on the road all the time. There are very few hidden fees, and if you book online, you will get a very accurate estimated total. What you will find – is that many cities and airports tack on “taxes” or “fees” and so these extra taxes and fees can vary widely from city to city and in fact, even between “airport” locations and “off-airport” locations. Almost all of the online booking sites will provide you a pretty accurate estimate of what your *actual* rental total will be. However, there are occasionally a few suprises. The biggest one is a $250 fee for using a debit card – technically a deposit. This $250 debit card fee that most car rental companies want to tack on is supposedly refundable – but it will not be refunded for about 14 days after you return your car rental.
