What health problems are linked to asbestos exposure?
Asbestos is the established cause of a variety of medical problems, all of which are serious. Mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer, is almost always caused by asbestos exposure. The same is true for asbestosis, which is a chronic inflammatory condition of the lungs. Asbestos exposure can also cause pleural plaque and lung cancer. When combined with cigarette smoking, asbestos exposure is many times more likely to cause cancer.
