How do you address the challenges? Latinos in San Diego and across the nation experience long-standing health disparities in terms of access to care and health outcomes. Because of insurance-coverage problems and difficulties in finding culturally and linguistically proficient providers, many Latinos go without regular medical and dental care. Without ongoing health services, Latinos often develop serious, late-stage disease conditions. The major causes of death for Latinos are heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes. The key to avoiding late-stage disease conditions is early detection and early intervention. What about the $18 million Maternal and Child Health Center?
